Message From Pastor Bob Huisman

9:30 AM Sunday Morning Worship
Good News Spreads Part 3 of 4, Acts 9:1-19a
Ready for a change in a new direction?
Our Scripture for this Sunday is for you.
In Acts 9, we see God’s gracious hand turning Saul into the Apostle Paul through our risen Savior, Jesus.  Could God change your direction for the better?

Craig Cunningham will give us an update on our Sanctuary Renewal Project.  Consider giving a gift during the month of May to help fully fund this exciting opportunity to refresh and enhance our sanctuary!

You will also have an opportunity to plan ahead and volunteer in one of our ministries that is currently active or plans on resuming in the fall.  Check out the opportunities at the Ministry Fair in the Fellowship Room!

We will also cast our Affirmation Ballots for elders and deacons to affirm a slate of nominees recommended by our Council.  If you are worshipping from home, look for the affirmation ballot in your weekly email with your newsletter and bulletin.  Fill it out and send it to Pastor Bob at bhuisman@heritagecrc.net or contact your district elder for assistance.

Reminder: Bring a non-perishable food item for the food distribution ministry with our friends and neighbors at Byron Village.  Place it on the table in the Fellowship Room.

5:00 PM Sunday Evening Worship
The Letter to the Romans: “The Fifth Gospel”.  We begin a new series on Paul’s letter to the Romans and we begin with a new approach.  We will explore chapter 1 and notice how many of our summary confessional truths from the Heidelberg Catechism are revealed in Romans Chapter 1.  The chapter begins with Good News and ends with Sad News under the theme of “Our Great Need”.

We are thankful for God’s faithful provision of new office-bearers for our congregation.  We will cast lots to select new elders and deacons who will begin serving on June 1.

Thursday, May 5, National Day of Prayer
Join us in praying for our nation and our neighbors on Thursday, May 5.  There will be two gatherings, one from Noon-1:00 PM and one from 7:00-to 8:00 PM.  This is the seed of a new ministry pursuit called Byron Prays.  We will gather together at church and then Prayer Walk the neighborhoods around Heritage.  You will be equipped with a handout that includes the B.L.E.S.S. guide to prayer that encourages us to ask God to bless our neighbors and our nation in Body, Labor, Emotions, Socially, and Spiritually.

Summer Worship in the ARK

Our Sanctuary Renewal Project is set to begin on Monday, June 13.  We will worship in the ARK from Sunday, June 19 through the end of August/beginning of September.  Our staff and volunteers are making plans for our transition.  If you would like to help us in the process, please call the church office (616.878.1992) or contact one of our staff members.

SummerSongs – Need your Suggestions!
This summer, our morning worship services will focus our hearts on the book of Psalms – our biblical songbook or prayer, praise, and lament.  The Psalms are the favorites of many Christians.  We would love to focus on your most beloved Psalms.  There are not enough weeks in the summer to examine all 150 Psalms.  That’s where you come in.  Please send in your top 1, 2, or 3 favorite Psalms for consideration this summer.  Simply email or text Pastor Bob your suggestions and we will choose from the totals of your recommendations.  bhuisman@heritagecrc.net or 616.682.7685

Thank You for your Gifts, Tithes, and Offerings
Thank you for your generosity to Christ’s Church.  We encourage you to prioritize your local church in your giving because the local church is the bride of Christ, and Jesus is the hope of the world.  We excel in the grace of giving when we honor God with our time, our treasures, and our talents.

Pastor Bob Huisman
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
And over all these virtues put on love,
which binds them all together in perfect unity.  Colossians 3:12-14
