Since the beginning of the church, Christians have observed the days of our Lord’s passion and resurrection with great devotion. It became one of the greatest traditions of the church to prepare for these events through serious examination of our spiritual lives. We call this the season of Lent.
On Ash Wednesday, the first day of the season of Lent, we are reminded of our mortality; we confess our sins; we experience forgiveness through Christ’s death and resurrection.
In Scripture, ashes serve both as a symbol of mortality and as a sign of mourning and repentance.
But neither sin nor death is the final word.
Christ has conquered death, and nothing can separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus, our Lord.
Prayer: Almighty God, you have created us out of the dust of the earth. May ashes remind us of our mortality and penitence and teach us again that only by your gracious gift are we given everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.
This year, we will not be gathering for Ash Wednesday.
Nevertheless, we can remember the words of truth that are spoken when one receives the imposition of ashes in the sign of the cross.
Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return,
but the steadfast love of the Lord endures forever.
Lent 2021 – Thirst or Quench Our new series for Lent is entitled “Thirst or Quench”.
Together, we will trace the powerful images of water in the Scriptures from Creation to the Red Sea to Jesus’ Baptism to Jesus’ words on the cross, “I thirst”. On Easter Sunday, the longing of our souls will be quenched by the glorious promise of God in Christ Jesus that we will live with him by the Sea of Crystal.
Thank You for your Gifts, Tithes, and Offerings
Thank you for your generosity to Christ’s Church. We encourage you to prioritize your local church in your giving because the local church is the hope of the world. We excel in the grace of giving when we honor God with our time, our treasures, and our talents.
Pastor Bob Huisman
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love,
which binds them all together in perfect unity. Colossians 3:12-14
