Strangest Easter Ever!
April 13, 2020
Pastor Bob Huisman

From a pastor’s perspective, this was the strangest Easter ever.

I didn’t preach a sermon on Easter—and yet I did – very strange.

Stranger yet was the sequence of events of the week – especially on Thursday.

Late on Thursday afternoon, I recorded the Easter Sunday morning sermon.
A few hours later, on Thursday evening, I watched the Maundy Thursday Worship service with my family.  Strange.
I watched myself serve communion to myself.  Very strange indeed.

But the strangest thing of all this weekend has been, that despite all the changes from live online worship to pre-recorded online worship, and from Lord’s Supper together at church to Lord’s Supper in our homes…the strangest thing of all is that God still blessed my heart and blessed it in a powerful way.

I trust he blessed your heart as well.

Our great story of faith in Jesus is still our great story of faith.  No matter what changes around us.
The death and resurrection of Christ our Lord are at the center of all things even when all things change.  When a violent storm destroys a home, the foundation still remains.
The foundation of our faith still remains despite being separated from so much of what we have known.

Jesus is the cornerstone.
Jesus is enough.
Build your life on Him.

Today is Easter Monday.  An extension to the celebration of Easter Sunday.
Following Jesus’ resurrection, Jesus appeared to his disciples and many others.
His final word to them long ago is His promise for us today.

“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”  (Matthew 28:10)

Easter is not the end, it is the beginning!

Prayer – from The Book of Worship
O God…grant us health, both of mind and body, that we may love thee with our whole strength,
and with glad hearts may perform those things which are pleasing unto thee;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.
